“The king is dead…long live the king”
It’s a very hot Monday and time to write my very first ‘blog’ for The Real Wood site…quite exciting…ok, so…
We invite you to join us at the preview evening for this exciting upcoming exhibition by one of our favourite artists, Rod raig (www.rodcraig.com), which will run throughout July and August.
When: Saturday June 30th , 7pm-10pm
Where: The Real Wood Furniture Company, at Mo Tighe, Chipping Norton, Chapel House Grounds, OX7 5SZ
At 8pm there will be a 45 minute performance featuring Rod creating a new work (or works) to a live musical back drop by ‘woodman & friends’ featuring Tony Poole on 12 strong guitar, Chris Baylis on Stratocaster and Emily Burridge on cello. Rod’s painting will be projected onto a large screen so that all can see. The musicians and Rod will ‘bounce off’ each other in an improvised performance of painting and music making.
The exhibition features new watercolour and ink paintings by Rod and also some oil paintings…a medium he has not worked with for many a year!
We will be serving wine, soft drinks and coffees throughout the evening and whilst there will be no charge for the performance or drinks, there will be opportunity to support a local charity that we endorse. ‘ROSY’ (www.rosy.org.uk) offers respite nursing for chronically ill children in Oxfordshire.
On other fronts we are taking part in the Cotswolds AONB hare trail (www.cotswoldsharetrail.org.uk). We bought 18 hares at the charity auction which closed last year’s festival, securing our lovely ‘Ronnie’ who we had sponsored as our ‘parting gift’ to Woodstock. We have now sold 10 of these hares and are donating 10% of these proceeds to ROSY. ‘Ronnie’ and two other hares are definitely NOT for sale but others are looking for new homes…so if you fancy an interesting new addition to your garden (or hallway…?) please do come and have a look.
By the by…we also have an ‘African’ garden on our new site featuring an 11ft high giraffe, some hanging chimps, a crane, and an ostrich made from recycled oil cans!
And finally…if you haven’t visited our new showrooms yet, our new designs keep on coming but ‘traditional’ old friends are still here as well.
We hope to see you on the 30th, or Saturdays Sundays and Mondays throughout July and August.
Please listen to the sound bite below from a previous painting to music performance by ‘woodman and friends’ to give you a small flavour of how the evening’s music may unfold….
